Nikolina Kulidzan came to the United States from Bosnia and Herzegovina at eighteen and has described herself as a Bosnian refugee turned U.S. diplomat.

She joined the Foreign Service as a public diplomacy officer and served in Singapore and Beijing and as a watch officer in the Department's Operations Center. She is also the author of the novel Barren Grace, and her essays have appeared in national publications.
